More on Crowdsourced Commissioning

An organization in the UK has created a 'tenner for a tenor' campaign - where they're trying to ask for donations in 10 pound notes to commission a new vocal work. http://bit.ly/Meaning0056

More on Social Media Assessment

Launching today: Groupofminds' Social Media Audit is a new online arts marketing audit and improvement system that scores arts organizations on their online marketing, identifies problem areas, illustrates solutions based on industry best practice, recommends areas for improvement, and then follows up with them over time to support their expanded capabilities.

The system was created by Ron Evans of Groupofminds Arts Marketing Consultants and is designed to take the guesswork out of online marketing improvement. Just as every nonprofit has its finances audited annually, periodic assessment of social media and online marketing practices is necessary to ensure that strategies and tactics are up to date in this rapidly changing environment.

Monthly Pass vs. Subscription

http://www.tcg.org/publications/at/apr11/strategies.cfm

The ACT Theatre in Seattle has a monthly pass product in addition to their subscriptions. Reminded me of the Dallas Symphony Impromptu program. $25 per month vs. $300 per year.

Those of you who participated in the Masters Day at the National Arts Marketing Conference in San Jose November 2010 will remember the great presentation by David Harrison. This link is to a story that further describes the success at Parsons Dance Company or other companies who've diversified revenue streams in these turbulent times.

Thanks to Zach Kemp from WolfBrown for this post on the Hinomaru Variations

I've been asked by many people over the last ten days if I have relatives in Japan, how should they donate, etc. I've responded that my distant relatives in Japan live south of Osaka, so they've not been impacted directly by this.

However, the flights from LAX to Narita, Tokyo's International Airport, take a polar route and fly south over the now devastated area on approach. Having looked down on these villages near the ocean so many times, looking at the news images, I can just imagine how these centuries old dwellings were impacted by the devastation.

And my thanks to Zach for posting these images, as artists are able to quickly depict what I've been feeling in my heart every hour since the devastation.
